Views are applied to the current query by using the View pulldown menu.
Views may consist of several rows as well as several columns. Cells may be spanned across rows and columns. The contents of a cell can be cut, copied and pasted to allow views to be changed very easily. This provides much greater flexibility in the formatting of data in views:
When a view shows items that are linked to other items (such as system requirements linked to user requirements), the linked items are shown in nested rows. Nested views show complex, cross referenced information.
You can create nested views from right to left. The source view references a secondary view. It displays cross references between items when in the Table view and it is customisable to your needs.
You create the inner most view first, working towards the outer most view. Views are customisable to your needs by using the View Details dialog as explained previously.
Linked items can be filtered in a WorkBench view, so that you can define a view that shows all linked items that match a particular query. That is, you are not filtering the top-level items, but you are instead filtering which of these items’ linked items are shown to just those linked items that match a specific query.
When a view displays calculated attributes, the value is not recalculated until the item is saved or the view is refreshed, e.g. when resorting.
Calculated attributes can be used in a summary metric so that you can, for instance, see a total of totals.
Command cells can be setup from the View Properties tab which allow you to trigger a certain number of commands from an item in a table. The commands that are available are:
- New Child
- New Sibling
- New Hierarchy
- Show Linked Items
- Show Link Details
- Unlink Item
- Show Item History
- Discussions
- New Linked Item
- Create Link
Once the commands are setup the corresponding view will show an arrow in the first column which produces a flyout menu with the commands you have defined:
