How to Set Hierarchy Diagram Properties

  1. To access the Hierarchy Diagram Properties dialog you can either:
  1. Select the Properties button Properties button on the Diagram tab
  2. Right-click and choose HID Properties…
  3. Choose the Properties button button from the Control sidebar
  4. Press H

  1. Set the applicable options:
  1. Orientation - The orientation of the HID as either Vertical (the default) where levels of cross referenced items are drawn below each other or Horizontal where the levels of items are drawn to the right of each other.
  2. Use word wrapping when displaying multi-line attributes - If selected word wrapping is used when displaying multi line attributes. If not selected character wrapping is used instead.
  3. Show arrowheads on cross references - If not selected, then the cross references are still drawn as lines, but without an arrowhead to show the direction of the cross reference.
  4. Expand duplicates - If selected, duplicate instances of items (shown with a box in their top-right corner) can be expanded.
  5. Align items at each level - If selected, items are aligned at each level.
  6. Show item borders/shading - If selected, then items are not drawn within coloured boxes in HIDs.
  7. Pivot items at level - You can optionally pivot items in the diagram to draw their children in the opposite orientation. This can allow you to achieve squarer diagrams. The minimum level is 1 and the maximum level is 5.
  8. Pivot offset - In line with the above option, the offset of the pivot in the range 0500.
  9. Initial expansion - Number of levels of HID that are drawn when a HID is first shown in the range 17.
  10. Incremental expansion - Number of levels of cross referenced items that are to be drawn when the user expands an item in the range 15.
  11. Initial zoom - The initial zoom level of cross referenced items that are to be drawn when the user expands an item in the range 18.
  12. Cell width - Minimum and maximum width (in diagram coordinates) of the cells used to draw items in HIDs. By default the minimum cell width is 0 but can be specified in the range 0 ... 2000 which is the same as the maximum cell width.
  13. Level gap - Size (in diagram coordinates) of the gaps between levels of items in HIDs in the range 0500.
  14. Sibling gap - Size (in diagram coordinates) of the gaps between items and their siblings in the range 0500.

The Item Attributes section is shown below:

  1. Choose the Item Type by using the pulldown menu
  2. You can either double-click the attribute you require from the Attributes Available list or you can highlight it and press the Move selected item into the show attributes section button

The Show Attributes list defines which properties will appear in items in the HID.

Tip: The Identity Only attribute only displays the identity of the item, i.e. it doesn't display it's instance (version and draft ID for items and the source document name and version number for source statements).
  1. You can also add a separator which separates item attributes by choosing --SEPARATOR-- from the Attributes Available list
  2. The position of attributes can be changed by using the Move Up and Move Down keys
  3. Select the Options… button

  1. You can set the alignment of the attribute values and whether the item attribute is to be shaded
  2. From this dialog you can also set the number of lines you want the attribute to wrap over up to a maximum of 20 lines
  3. Select OK to apply the options
  4. From the Hierarchy Diagram Properties dialog you can either select Apply to apply the settings to the current diagram or OK to apply the changes and remove the dialog.
  5. You also have the option to Save or Save As…
